I asked him if I was able to get ahold of tickets, if Asha would even be allowed in the door, since she is a child. Greg told me she would be able to go inside.

Greg told me he had been given tickets but had given them all out. He said he might get more tickets that night and he would call me if he did.

Around 10:45pm Wednesday night, I received a phone call from Greg. He told me he had two tickets for Asha and me to attend the President’s speech.

A BIG THANK YOU TO GREG!!!!

Thursday morning, Asha and I got up early, ate breakfast in the car, and drove to Greg’s office to meet his secretary to get the tickets.

We got the tickets and Asha was given a lot of items left over from President Obama’s 2008 campaign. (Pictures to follow in a separate post)

After we got the tickets, Asha started to get nervous, realizing she was about to see Obama. She was complaining of her stomach and her heart hurting. (I was thinking she was really nervous!)

We found a place to park and headed off to find the Rec Hall.

We waited in line for about an hour. Asha was actually really well behaved while we were waiting in line. When we got inside the Rec Hall, we got great seats, directly in front of the stage, up on the risers. (There was VIP seating on the floor!)

Asha kept asking how much longer, going to the bathroom a lot, and then she fell asleep. (She has stayed up late the night before and had to get up really early that morning.)

We got to see Greg there. He was in the VIP section. He looked up at us and waved. We waved back and said a “thank you”. We are hoping to meet him in person, to thank him properly.

I woke her up as they started with The Pledge of Allegiance.

Asha caught a glimpse of Obama behind the curtain and said to me, “Mommy I see him!” and she started to cry. I had her stand up on the bench we were sitting on when he came out, so she could see him, since she is shorter than the people in front of us. (She was the only child in the general audience. There were some children in the VIP floor section.)

She was happy, clapping, and laughing when he came out.

His speech was great, I agree with him completely. You can see the post two down from this one; I included the video to his speech.

We had a great day and she and I will never forget it. She is more determined now to meet him, and is looking to the future on how she can be chosen for the yearly Easter event at the White House.
Mission Obamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00274499394585332093noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2927289921670969932.post-69452086790808469132011-02-05T09:03:00.000-08:002011-02-05T09:03:22.976-08:00New domain nameI would like to ask all of our readers to save our new web address www.missionobama.com into your favorites and delete the old web address http://missionobama.blogspot.com.

Asha is supposed to have school tomorrow, if it isn't delayed, like it has been for the past two days. But, I have surprised her a couple of minutes ago by letting her know she will not be going to school tomorrow, instead we are making a road trip to State College, an hour drive, to try and catch a glimpse of President Obama.

I wish I would have video taped her reaction. She screamed for about five minutes and is super excited!
I'll post tomorrow and let you know what happens.Mission Obamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00274499394585332093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2927289921670969932.post-73275365034753807202011-01-24T10:31:00.000-08:002011-01-24T10:31:25.682-08:00Help Needed
Hello all in blog world!

Our trip started off almost not happening. We were supposed to drive my mother's car. About an hour before my mom was to get off of school, an old woman hit my mother's car and totaled it! I was then running around like a chicken with my head cut off, looking for a car to use. (I really didn't want to use my car because it is older and I wanted to make it to Washington DC, not break down along the way.) I called my mother-in-law to ask her if I could use her car, she has a brand new 2010 car. I told her I would give her my car if I could use her car and she said alright.

We started out at 6pm and arrived to the hotel, the Capital Hilton, a little after 9pm. We couldn't believe how close we were to the White House! If you stepped outside our hotel you could see the White House! We were only two blocks away from the White House.

We went to our room and drop off our luggage then headed downstairs for dinner in the hotel restaurant. After dinner, we went to bed, knowing we had to be up early the next morning.

We woke up early the next morning, got showers, ate breakfast, got dressed and hair done. I double checked to make sure we had everything we needed for the White House tour and we were off.

We walked to the White House and stood in line with about 20-30 other people. We had to shut off our phones, show ID at two different podiums, and we went through about 2-3 metal detectors.

Once we got into the White House, we seen pictures all along the walls of the current President as well as past presidents. We talked to the Secret Service guy who was leading the tour and told him it was Asha's birthday and how she wanted to meet the President. He went away for a minute and came back with a picture of Bo for her!

On our tour we seen;
The Library
The Vermeil Room
The China Room
The East Room
The Green Room
The Blue Room
The Red Room
The State Dining Room

After our tour of the White House, we stayed in Washington DC another day so we could see the sights. We got really used to the Metro (underground train system).

Here are some of the places we went to;
Madame Tussauds
Lincoln Memorial (which has 58 steps, I counted)
Washington Monument
Reflecting Pool
Museum of American History
Museum of Natural History

All in all it was a great trip. Asha didn't get to meet President Obama, she she did get to step inside his house and take numerous pictures with him at Madame Tussauds (wax museum).

We wish we could've stayed longer, but we had to come home. Since the children were so well behaved, we are now planning a trip to New York to see the sights up there.Mission Obamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00274499394585332093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2927289921670969932.post-80150223919785246092011-01-20T09:17:00.000-08:002011-01-23T09:22:35.967-08:00More for Asha's collection

Well, Asha and I were interviewed today by a lovely reporter from WJAC-TV. Asha and I were asked questions about her trip and this blog, Asha showed off her Obama collection, and she also showed her blog. When she was showing off her blog, she just had to scroll down to her favorite song and sing along to the video!

The interview is supposed to air tonight on WJAC-TV news at 11pm.

If I can get a copy of the interview I will post it on the blog for our non local readers to see. We are hoping that someone watching the interview can help Asha on her mission to meet Obama.
As you might know already, Asha really wants to meet President Obama.

We know that is a BIG goal, but we hope someone out there can help her to meet President Obama while we are in Washington DC for her seventh birthday!

If she can't meet him we are going to try to take her to a wax museum down there that has a wax figure of him that she can get her picture with.

With a little over a week to go, I'm asking everyone reading this to help us figure a way she can meet President Obama or at least catch a glimpse of him.

Please help Asha!
I put a request in for our family to tour the White House on Asha's 7th birthday, in January 2011, about 2 months ago. Today I received an email that our family got accepted to tour the White House on Asha's 7th birthday!
I am so excited! I am trying to come up with an idea on how to surprise Asha on Christmas by making a present that lets her know we are going on the tour.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Also, does anyone have an idea on where and/or how I can make t-shirts for the whole family with her blog logo on it for the tour, in hopes that she will be able to meet President Obama?
Lyrics:

Barack Obama! Yes we can yeah!
Barack Obama! We all come together now!
Barack Obama! Ya ya ya! Barack Obama!

Barack Obama’s making history man
He’s Coming with a message for the people
saying “yes we can” yo!
Si se puede today is a new day
So come on and throw your hands up
Every woman every man!

Barack Obama! Yes we can yeah!
Barack Obama! We all come together now!
Barack Obama! Ya ya ya! Barack Obama!

Building blocks of a new vow
A million stops and a new route
The acting out of the possible feels
Better than the few doubts
Political change
Critical claims
All in attempts to embellish the reign
Of power to the people – so that we may develop
The sequel of living
In love for the peaceful
Pushing the envelope honoring all
Of the work
Paying attention to reason
Dipping our feet in deeper than
Moderate worth
Teaching minds of a new height
Seeking finds of a new light
This is the meaning of outreach
When it’s outta reach we still fight

Barack Obama! Yes we can yeah!
Barack Obama! We all come together now!
Barack Obama! Ya ya ya! Barack Obama!

I’d like to pay respect and love to he
Who’ll have us know that we can be
Whatever we dream
Take my hand, let’s take this stand
If they say, “No you can’t”
You tell them, “Yes we can!”
Yes we can, yes we can, yes we can
Yes we can, yes we can, yes we can
It’s time for the revolution, every woman man
If they say, “No you can’t”
You tell them, “Yes we can!”

Barack Obama! Yes we can yeah!
Barack Obama! We all come together now!
Barack Obama! Ya ya ya! Barack Obama!
Its been so long now
We all come together now
Its been so long now
We all come together now
We all come together now!!!
We all come together now!!!
